Choirs

Good Sam has three choirs: the All Saints’ Choir, the Sanctuary Choir, and Schola Cantorum.

Learn about these choirs and consider joining one or more of them, below.

All Saints’ Choir

An all-are-welcome pickup choir, meeting four times a year to make a joyful noise unto the Lord.

This intergenerational group was formed after the resounding success of our original all-comers pickup choir. The All Saints’ Choir meets quarterly to sing simple songs for Eucharist. Singers of all ages, including children, are welcome to join. Feel free to select an instrument to play during the songs; we have various types of percussion and other easy instruments to choose from.

Refreshments and goodies are provided, as well as some time for fellowship before we learn a couple simple songs. We then sing those songs (and play instruments!) at the 10:30am service: standing at the front of the church, on the chancel steps (not in the Choir Loft).

Come to the Lounge at 9:15am on meeting day. Meetings of the All Saints’ Choir are announced in the Sunday bulletin, Wednesday email, monthly newsletter, and community calendar. Jump in and enjoy something new, with no strings attached!

Drop in and sing

Simply show up on meeting day! These occasions are announced ahead of time in the weekly Wednesday email, and in the bulletin insert. Write to Music Director Zachary Duell at z.a.duell@gmail.com with questions.

Sanctuary Choir

Our Sanctuary Choir provides choral music and leads singing at the 10:30am Sung Eucharist.

This choir includes a combination of parish members and choral scholars from Oregon State University. We sing at least one anthem per week, and lead congregational singing at the 10:30am Choral Eucharist. We also take on larger, more complex works at Christmas and Easter.

We rehearse mid-September through early June on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. On Sundays, we meet at 9:45am to prepare for our 10:30am service (Choral Eucharist).

Schola Cantorum Choir

This ensemble, which is separate from the Sanctuary Choir, meets on Sunday evenings to provide music for Sung Compline.

Schola Cantorum focuses primarily on the performance of Gregorian chant and is a good option for someone wanting to join a choir for the first time, or who may not have time to commit to a group that rehearses during the week.

Rehearsals begin at 5:30pm Sunday evenings in the main sanctuary, from mid-September through May. After singing for Sung Compline at 7pm, the Schola heads home around 7:30 (a two-hour maximum time commitment).
