This this hybrid presentation and workshop will be led by lay preacher and businesswoman Dr. Melissa Bird, along with strategist, change curator and activist Crystal Walker, combining their decades of experience.
“Dismantling racism is not as complicated as we make it. If we know our history and we are willing to walk through our fear, and let it go, we will be able to take action and make authentic decisions to speak out and make lasting change.” —Dr. Melissa Bird
We’ll unpack four centuries of history in the United States, before turning to practical examples of disrupting racism. We will conclude by looking at ways to repair the damage caused by racism, and to have open conversations about reparations.
You will receive a link for the online Zoom workshop when you register. You are encouraged to register soon since there is a limit to how many can attend, and we are opening this workshop up to other churches. The event is free, but if you can donate $5 or $10 to help defray costs, please mail your check to Albany First United Methodist Church and note that it’s for the “Anti-racism Workshop,” or donate through their church website.
